Review: Learning to Fall (Addison Hill Book 3) by Mina V. Esguerra

Another day, another novella. This time it's another one from Mina Esguerra, and part of her other series of books surrounding the fictional Addison Hill campus. This new novella is all about stumbling through adulthood and the things we have to do to do what we love. Oh and did I mention it's really really steamy?

Avid reader and art student Steph is participating in a monthly blog challenge to Live Like Fiction, and this was the task for October. When Grayson, former co-captain of her university rugby team, walks into her class, she knows it’s meant to be – she has to go out with this guy. Even if she’s never been attracted to big, hunky, athletic types. With Grayson’s “player” reputation off the field, Steph thinks he’ll be good for one date that’ll be worth blogging about, and that’s it.

But you know how it goes: Soon, it becomes more than just one date – and Steph and Grayson are caught up in “living like fiction.” How long can they keep playing their roles before reality steps in?

Review

I feel like things kind of come in full circle with this book. Fans of Mina's Addison Hill Series will easily recognize Steph and Grayson, the secondary characters for Falling Hard . While Steph didn't make much of an impression on me in Falling Hard, I clearly remember Grayson because he's the smooth one. Plus he's a sexy man. With abs. Yessss. He may love his sports metaphors (and actually comes up with their ship name Stayson! So adorbs) but he just really wants to be the guy that can do it all.

I may be a little bit in love.

There is a lot of steam in this book. I am not kidding. But I love that each time seems different because you see the transition between them turning from being together for convenience, and when they really start relying on each other. This ultimately is the reason why Steph freaks out and almost ends everything.

I love these two characters. They're well thought out, and their new adult struggles are just all too real. Steph is an artist, and that alone already raises a lot of red flags where I come from. Add that to her penchant for reading books and reviewing them, and I thought--hello Carla, is that you in book form? She was relatable, even during times where she was being totally whiny about her life.

My only issue with this book would be the main premise of how the two characters start to date each other, even if they weren't supposed to be each other's type. There's a lot going on in the story already even without it, but the buildup and conclusion make it worth the read!

All in all it's a good book, my second favourite of Mina's Addison Hill/Breathe Rockstar romances. Did I mention that this book brings those two worlds together?  You're going to have to read to find out why (the word 'yummy' is only used once in the book, and it's used to describe someone who totally fits!!).

Review: Tempting Victoria (Breathe Rockstar Romance 2) by Mina Esguerra

Just a few hours ago, two very good actors read an excerpt of this book out loud as Nathan and Victoria. I have to admit, I was blushing right after with all the feelings. Just in time for it's shiny new Flirt Publications release (yesterday!!), here's my review of Tempting Victoria, book two of the Breathe Rockstar Romance Series!

Victoria Bennett is in control and in charge all day every day, but sometimes she needs help. One of those times is when she needs to organize a romantic proposal weekend for her client, and the only person available to help her is the notorious heartbreaker Nathan Grant.

Victoria knows she shouldn’t fall for guys like Nathan, but that hasn’t prevented her from lusting after him all these years. It’s just one weekend on the beach, away from everyone they know, alone with the guy who could cause her perfectly coordinated world to crumble. Shouldn’t be a problem, right?

Review

I read the first book of this series Playing Autumn and reviewed it when it was first released as an indie book. Looking at my review again, I realize that I was gushing more about the New Adult feels than the romance, which says a lot about me. Victoria featured prominently in Playing Autumn, and finally we see a bit more of her backstory!

But Tempting Victoria had all the elements of a fun, no frills beach read--an exotic location, just the right amount of sexual tension, actual sex, and a grand gesture in the end (I may or may not be talking about the proposal Victoria's organizing!). I am a huge fan of bickering couples falling in love, and this one hit all the right notes (ooh, music pun!). Victoria had such a strong idea of who Nathan was and who he should be, that when he broke himself down to her, she found herself pleasantly surprised by the result.

I love that they have zero expectations of each other. Victoria would never easily believe in happily ever after forever, but the ending opened up that possibility for them both because they gave so much of themselves to the other.

It's a light and fun beach read that's begging to be turned into an audio book (wink wink, Mina!) I highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for something light and fun to bring to the beach. Just in case you feel like living like fiction. ;)
